Which Agency Monitors Faulty Or Defective Products?

I’m David Salazar. Welcome to my blog, my Facebook group, and my YouTube channel, Safety Guardians. Have you ever wondered which agency actually monitors all the recalls that are out there? I made an interactive video where I shared my screen with you so you could follow along.

The official organization in the US is called the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, also known as the CPSC. CPSC is an interesting organization. There are a lot of useful things here if you take a look. You can scroll down on their website and you’ll see the recalls.

Check the CPSC website for recalls

They usually have new recalls on there daily. And if not daily, definitely weekly. They range from everything from essential oils to ATVs to artificial Christmas trees. They have all the recalls on their site.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission receives complaints from people. And after a certain number of complaints are received, it’s usually a percentage of how many of the products are out there, they then decide whether or not to tell the company that they should issue a recall for these products. Here, you can see some of the things that have been recalled.

Examples of recalls

Manhattan Toy recalls, affecting a Manhattan ball. And if you check it out, you can contact them. You can also see exactly what the dangers are and the instances it happened. Manhattan Toy received six reports of the plastic tubes detaching from the center of the ball. Two of the six reports included a silicon tether being separated from the toy.

It’s a very interesting website. That is not to say that it is without fault. I want to make sure you understand that. The CPSC is a very good organization to go to for direction. But they are not the end all, be all. I’ll give you an example. They have a lot of research and statistics on their site.

More dangerous products

However, a lot of things fall through the cracks. They’re a government agency. We have a case right now where we saw that there were hundreds of reported incidents with a particular above ground swimming pool and there was never a recall for the dangers of the ladder and it being unstable for this particular above ground swimming pool.

If you take a look, there are all kinds of research and data here that they do. Let’s take a look at Sports and Recreation. Safety Concerns Associated with Micromobility Products. Powered Scooter Special Study. There’s a lot of helpful information and a lot of resources for people. If you have a question about any kind of product, you can absolutely go on here and probably find the answer.

Chests of drawers hazards

Take a look down here, at chests of drawers. A lot of these are tip over hazards. A lot of these are dangerous for children because children will sometimes jump onto the drawers and chests and it’ll tip over on top of them, trapping them or even causing a fatal injury.

I just wanted to show you this resource. There’s a lot in here about safety education. It’s a very useful website. That being said, buyer beware, please understand that this is not the only resource you should rely on. There are other dangerous products out there as well. These just happen to be the ones that are most reported to the CPSC.
