Watch The Rookies On The Road

David Salazar:

Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman. David Salazar here. And I’m glad that you are here today, because today, I have a special guest, Christina.

Christina Nguyen:

Hi, everyone.

David Salazar:

You probably see Christina a lot of times. She’ll do the welcome message whenever she says hi to everybody in the Facebook group. So, today, we wanted to talk about something that is pretty obvious. But we wanted to hear your experiences with it and we wanted to make sure that you guys practice defensive driving. And that topic is rookies.

What I mean by rookies is people who are brand new to riding motorcycles, or teenagers. So, Christina, can you give your two cents on that?

Distracted drivers

Christina Nguyen:

Yeah. So, in this day and age of social media and technology, I feel like teenagers and younger drivers, even people that don’t ride motorcycles, are always distracted. There’s always something going on.

David Salazar:

Texting.

People do dangerous things while riding

Christina Nguyen:

Yeah. Texting, eating, social media, Instagram, Facebook. There’s TikTok now. People are trying to share their experience. I have a friend who likes to videotape and Instagram Live when she’s riding with her boyfriend. And that’s pretty dangerous, and it’s such a distraction on the road.

Why all that distraction is so dangerous

David Salazar:

Distraction. That’s the perfect word. Social media will be the bane of our existence when it comes to accidents. And the reason why is because… I can’t tell you… How many times do you see people on the road and you’re looking at the person next to you at a stoplight and they’re on their phone.

And then they’re late to start moving forward or somebody in front of you is doing that because they’re on their phone. They’re not paying attention; they’re distracted.

Watch out for distracted drivers…

Distracted driving is rampant around the US. And people are constantly on their phones. Even when they’re not supposed to be, they’re constantly doing it. So, rookies on motorcycles, teenagers, people who have just started driving, watch out for these people. Anything else you’d like to add?

…and put your own phone down too

Christina Nguyen:

I would just say, put your phone down. I know it’s a strange time. But TikTok seems to be blowing up and I’ve noticed videos of… I don’t even know how to explain it. It’s just videos of people riding and doing funny dances and tricks and stuff. And it’s not worth it. It really isn’t.

David Salazar:

Don’t be doing dances and TikTok videos while you’re driving. How about that?

Christina Nguyen:

Yeah. Period.

David Salazar:

Don’t be doing that and watch out for the people who are doing that. This is David Salazar.

Christina Nguyen:

Christina.

David Salazar:

Thank you guys for joining us. And if you have any questions or suggestions, let us know. We look forward to talking to you soon.

Christina Nguyen:

Thank you.
