Can Your Sanitizer Cause Blindness?

I’m David Salazar with the Safety Guardians. Today, we are going to talk about sanitizers. Normally, we talk about all kinds of recalls on here and I’m trying to give you guys updated recalls as they come through.

This one is a little bit older but they have rolling recalls. And what I mean by rolling recalls is that they’re constantly adding new recalls because sanitizers are popping up all over the place right now. Considering the current situation in the world, sanitizers are a hot commodity so they’re coming up all over.

Dangerous hand sanitizers

In the meantime, the FDA is issuing constant recalls on sanitizers, and there are a lot of reasons why. For example, some of these hand sanitizers contain methanol. I don’t know who is putting this stuff in there. I don’t know who is making this stuff. All I’m going to show is that the FDA is issuing recalls with lists of hand sanitizers that are very dangerous.

What is methanol? First of all, it is dangerous for people. And substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.

Who is at risk?

All people using these products on their hands are at risk. Young children seem to be more at risk because of the potential for them to ingest it. We’ve seen kids that don’t do the smartest things sometimes, so we want to make sure that we’re very cautious with these types of things.

Sanitizer recalls

Today, we’re going to be talking about sanitizer recalls. My understanding is that there are over 80 sanitizers on the list of dangerous sanitizers that have been recalled. You can find the list here:

Please be careful. Err on the side of caution when it comes to this stuff. The sanitizer gets absorbed into your hands. If it is used enough, this stuff could pose a very dangerous risk to you and your family. I want to make sure you guys understand that.

My name is David Salazar. We are the Safety Guardians. We try to give you as many safety updates as we can regarding dangerous products in your home.
